All internships are paid.


Assistance with relocation.
Since most of our internship opportunities are based in Dodgeville, a number of interns will need to relocate for a semester or for the summer. Lands' End will reimburse acceptable travel expenses incurred while the intern was moving to begin the internship and for those travel expenses that incur during nses that incur during the move back once the internship has been completed.

Paid security deposits.
Lands' End will pay security deposits on apartments if an intern needs to relocate for the internship as well as assist in the search for short-term housing.

World-class activity center.
This facility is open to all employees, their immediate families and up to two (2) guests. While you are there, you can take advantage of our indoor pool or whirlpool, workout on the latest fitness equipment while watching your favorite TV program on our cardio-theatre, attend a step or box aerobic class or lift some weights. You can also join one of our numerous intramural leagues for basketball, volleyball or soccer.

Internal Seminar Series (ISS).
This seminar series provides an opportunity to learn about Lands' End business functions and department responsibilities through a series of presentations by Lands' End Vice-Presidents and Directors. You will gain a foundation in how we make decisions and learn about practices that have made us successful.

Activities.
Since many interns come to Lands' End from all over the country, we give interns many opportunities to get to know one another. Everything from cookouts, to volleyball games, to baseball games, we want to make sure interns have fun as well while they are working with us.


Accounting
Preferred Degree: Accounting
Offered: Spring - Summer (January through August)

  • Assisting with Fixed Asset physical inventory including review and documentation of purchasing and retirement procedures
  • Developing accounting procedures and policies for new start-up businesses
  • Working with the development of major accounting systems including Standard Costing System and Evaluated Receipts System
  • Participating in preparation and review of System and Evaluated Receipts System
  • Participating in preparation and review of monthly financial statement close process


Advertising
Preferred Degrees: Advertising, Marketing with an Advertising emphasis
Offered: Spring and Summer

  • Maintaining documentation on rate negotiations, media insertion orders and ad placement performance
  • Daily contact with outside media vendors
  • Maintaining cost records on all advertising development and media expenditures
  • Assisting in the creative development process


Art Direction
Preferred Degrees: Graphic Design, Art with a Graphic Design emphasis
Offered: Spring - Summer (January through August)
  Summer - Fall (May through December)

  • Assisting with the layout and design of the catalogs
  • Coordinating laydown shoots
  • Editing film and working with layout revisions
  • Working with the design and layout of BRC cards (mailer cards)


Communication Development-Employee Communications
Preferred Degrees: Journalism, Communications
Offered: Spring and Summer

  • Supporting the development of a company-wide communication plan and assisting with the roll-out
  • Demonstrated PC proficiency and experience using Macintosh applications
  • Working knowledge of QuarkXPress and other desktop publishing tools
  • Assisting with the training of the new plan to several departments throughout the company

Corporate Sales-Marketing
Preferred Degrees: Marketing
Offered: Summer '99

  • Working with National Account Executives to evaluate national account sales opportunities, including demand analysis and financial justification
  • Creating client proposals that address opportunities with Lands' End based on strengths in merchandising, creative, quality and fulfillment
  • Helping National Account Executives pitch proposals and following up with their closure, which may include occasional on-site visits
  • Assisting National Accounts staff in implementing proposals through operational processes


Design
Preferred Degree: Fashion/Apparel Design
Offered: Summer

  • Drawing production flats
  • Assembly of presentation boards
  • Sketching and CAD work
  • Mill sheet specification and processes


Direct Marketing
Preferred Degrees: Statistics (both undergrad and graduate), other majors that focus on quantitative analysis
Offered: Summer

  • Collecting, reporting and analyzing data using statistical software packages such as SAS
  • Analyzing product and media performance and communicating findings to various business groups
  • Conducting preliminary research and analysis for various business groups


Electronic Media (Internet)
Preferred Degrees: Technical Communications, Electronic Media/Commerce, Graphic Design with a focus on Electronic Publishing
Offered: Spring, Summer and Fall

  • Designing layouts for the Internet using the Macintosh as a design tool
  • Understtanding of HTML mark up language
  • Taking projects through the creative cycle from conception and design to final electronic authoring
  • Working with Internet Business Manager on several ad-hoc projects

Electronic Publishing
Preferred Degrees: Graphic Design, Art with a Graphic Design emphasis
Offered: Spring - Summer (January through August) Summer - Fall (May through December)

  • Building catalog pages in QuarkXPress from provided materials (layout, copy and photography)
  • Formatting and building catalog pages consistent with established graphic standards
  • Scanning transparencies and doing clipping paths and color manipulation where necessary
  • Working with Art Directors to design and correct catalog pages


Employee Services
Preferred Degrees: Human Resource Management, Organizational Communication
Offered: Summer - Fall (May through December)

  • Working with Operations management and Employee Services staff to determine peak hiring projections
  • Developing targeted on-campus recruitment programs in order to fill recruitment needs
  • Managing the on-campus recruitment program at a local university


Facility Design
Preferred Degrees: Interior Design/Space Planning, Construction Engineering
Offered: Spring - Summer (Januar Interior Design/Space Planning, Construction Engineering
Offered: Spring - Summer (January through August) Summer - Fall (May through December)

  • Assisting with interviews, CAD work and presentation materials for large building projects and interdepartmental moves
  • Responsible for the furniture Asset management system and warehouse inventory reports
  • Handling daily requests from departments for miscellaneous items (i.e. files, chairs)


Facility Planning
Preferred Degrees: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology
Offered: Spring - Summer (January through August) Summer - Fall (May through December)

  • Conducting studies of warehouse operations to document methods and procedures for further analysis
  • Verifying building, equipment, and office layout dimensions
  • Collecting and analyzing data using a variety of PC software (i.e. Lotus spreadsheets, databases and/or simulation models)

  • Working with Finance group on analysis projects in areas such as corporate tax and corporate budgeting and planning
  • Assisting in projects focused on increasing efficiencies in operations
  • Working with several areas of the Financial Services department on ad-hoc projects


Information Services
Preferred Degrees: MCS, MIS, CIS, Computer Science
Offered: Spring, Summer and Fall

  • Developing programs and documentation
  • Coding, testing and debugging programs
  • Developing specifications and test plans
  • Working with various business groups on projects which support their specific business needs


International
Preferred Degrees: International Business, Retailing with background in International Business
Offered: Summer

  • Working with US-based Lands' End Japan team on communication related projects
  • Assisting Inventory and Merchandising teams with analysis projects relating to the Lands' End Japan business
  • Working with the Japan-based Lands' End team via teleconferencing
  • Educational background and familiarity with the Japanese language is a definite plus

Preferred Degrees: International Business with background in Marketing, Statistics

  • Working with Export Business Manager on housefile segmentation/selection processes
  • Assisting with mail plan development and list rental analysis
  • Gaining exposure to operations activities relating to International catalog and package delivery

Intranet Development-Employee Communications
Preferred Degrees: Communication Technology, Communications or Technology degree with a focus and/or work experience in internet/intranet development
Offered: Spring and Summer

  • Working with several departments on content development
  • Transforming print documents into an appropriate format for Intranet use
  • Demonstrated PC proficiency and experience using Macintosh applications and desktop publishing applications


Inventory
Preferred Degrees: Distribution Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Business and Retailing with an additional analytical coursework.
Offered: Spring, Summer and Fall

  • Pre-season planning and forecasting and extensive sales trend analysis
  • Learning inventory concepts and strategies for direct marketing
  • Tracking of manufacturing process
  • Ad-hoc project analysis


Market Research
Preferred Degree: Market Research (either Graduate or undergraduate)
Offered: Summer

  • Assisting team with consumer research (primary and secondary) which impact marketing decisions for the company
  • Designing the study, questionnaire development, data collection and analysis
  • Presenting results of study through a final presentation and report to the team and other departments impacted by results

  • Working with Media Relations product team on a PR campaign focusing on a particular product

Merchandise Accessorizer
Preferred Degrees: Apparel/Fashion Merchandising, Retailing
Offered: Summer

  • Assisting accessorizers on creatively accessorizing all product for catalogs, ensuring the best product presentation to enhance sales by working with the Merchandising, Creative and Design teams
  • Understanding of current fashion trends and a knowledge of textiles and fabrics
  • Attending merchandising concept meetings and assisting with style shows


Operations
Preferred Degrees: Business Management, Operations Management, Supervisory Management
Offered: Summer - Fall (June through December)

  • Hands-on training in areas of operations in either the Distribution Center or Corporate Sales production areas
  • Developing management style through a series of workshops/training sessions offered
  • Training and supervising a staff of new employees through our peak season
  • Conducting performance evaluations and providing guidance when necessary

  • Assisting with all facets of running the store including merchandising, monitoring inventory levels and accountability for the store's overall operations
