Mineral Point
Illuminated with historic tradition and artistic flair
Once a thriving mining town, Mineral Point is a community filled with Cornish
history. Several of the Cornish settlers' homes, built with native limestone,
have been restored and are occupied. Many tourists come to Mineral Point to visit
Wisconsin's first historic district. The restored miners' homes from the 1840's at
the Pendarvis complex is one of six historic sites owned and operated by the State
Historical Society.
Mineral Point has attracted a wide variety of people who are both artisans and
craftspeople. Its small shops display the work of local talent as well as exquisite
antiques. Shake Rag Players, the community's theater group, performs highly regarded
productions in the historic Mineral Point Opera House.
The area around the community is quite hilly and picturesque, giving you a feeling
of the English countryside, similar to the Cornish immigrants' homeland. The
beauty of the countryside, combined with the eclectic atmosphere of the village,
makes Mineral Point a truly unique community in which to live.
