Did you know... that we first started doing business
in Chicago, Illinois? That's right. We started out selling our sailboat equipment
in a storefront located in the tannery district, near the Chicago River.
Did you know... that Lands' End manufactures its own
luggage? We cut the fabric at our Dodgeville location and then send it down to our
luggage manufacturing plant in West Union, Iowa. While we aren't able to make every
piece of luggage that we sell, a majority of our attaches and duffels are produced
at our plant in Iowa.
Did you know... that Dodgeville is only 45 minutes
southwest of Madison, Wisconsin? Many students opted to live in Madison during their
internship. Likewise, Milwaukee is approximately 2 hours east of Dodgeville and Chicago
is only 3 hours away.
Did you know... Lands'
End has three phone centers within the United States. Our main center is located
in Dodgeville and operates 24/7, 364 days a year (we are only closed on Christmas).
Our other phone centers are located near Madison, WI and Wisconsin Dells. At peak,
we have over 2500 people answering the phones!
Did you know... what the definition of "direct merchant" is? A direct merchant is a business that sources its products direct from a manufacturer, thus avoiding the costs of a middleman. This type of arrangement provides the opportunity for the business to describe product quality and specify construction details and allows for direct one-to-one communication between the business and the manufacturer, encouraging a relationship.
Using this definition, it describes our relationship, as a manufacturer and distributor, with our customer. We sell directly to our customer.
Did you know... that you can "try-on" clothing
before purchasing it on-line? You can do this by going into Your Personal Model
on the main
Lands' End website. It's an on-line shopping tool that
brings the dressing room to your computer. After the shopper inputs some key body
measurements, it creates a three-dimentional model of her figure. (Sorry guys, it's
for women only at this time!) Then the shopper can digitally "try-on" hundreds
of different ensembles, ranging from casual to dressy. It also suggests size, outfits
and fabrics that would best flatter specific figures.
